Dog saves his friend from… Scroll down for the video…

As captured on video, here’s the touching moment a black Staffordshire terrier rescued her animal companion from drowning in a backyard swimming pool in South Africa.

The seven-year-old Staffie dog called Jessie constantly wanders around the pool and reaches into the water in an attempt to get Chucky, a 13-year-old white canine who is struggling to remain afloat due to the rising water level.

Chucky was seen wandering securely by the pool in the clip captured by the exterior camera before being distracted by something in the yard and sliding in by the pool’s stairs.

He desperately doggy paddles in the water in an attempt to remain afloat, and Jessie rushes over to assist him as swiftly as possible.

While The heroic female canine is holding Chucky, his wet fur keeps slipping out of her mouth, and he falls back into the water.

After numerous unsuccessful tries, she uses all of her power to bring the fatigued dog to safety before they scurry away together after 34 minutes of dragging the exhausted dog to freedom.

When the dog owners saw the two dogs dripping wet, they were concerned about what had transpired. Chucky was not wounded in the event.

Animal caretaker Byron Thanarayen claimed he and his wife Melissa kept an eye on the surveillance camera beside the pool to see what the two dogs could have been up to while they were away.

‘We attempted to find indications as to where he could have gotten water on his head,’ he said.
We speculated that he had dropped his head into the water, but there was no evidence to substantiate this theory in the home.

‘It was very heartbreaking to see.
When we view that video now, we get a little choked up simply thinking about what might have occurred if Jessie had not been present.’

Byron went on to say that the courageous pooch was a problematic rescue dog that the couple had rescued four years before.

Having been returned to the shelter by her previous foster family, the pair is her third and final adoptive family.

The former owners had claimed that Jessie was tough with other animals, but Mr. Thanarayen said she “get along with our other two dogs from the beginning.”

‘I’m quite proud of her, especially given she is the youngest,’ he said.
Our dogs are proficient swimmers, but they only do it when we are around; otherwise, they will not swim.’

For the time being, the couple is employing workers to put a pool cover on their property in order to avoid such tragedies from occurring again.
