When a 64-year-old man was left paralyzed in the snow following a fall and fracturing his neck, his dog performed a heroic deed by sleeping on top of him for over 24 hours to keep him warm in the frigid temperatures…
On New Year’s Eve, a guy knew only as Bob left his home in Petoskey, Michigan, to go out and get firewood…
A 5-year-old golden retriever named Kelsey was with Bob as he left the home in his long johns, slippers, and a shirt to go buy firewood during halftime of the Fiesta Bowl…
Bob’s 15-foot stroll became a nightmare when he slipped and fell and was unable to get up.
According to Petoskey News, “I was yelling for assistance, but my closest neighbor is about a quarter-mile away and it was 10:30 at night; luckily my Kelsey arrived,” Bob was quoted as saying.
When Kelsey didn’t stop barking, “by the morning my voice was gone and I couldn’t cry for aid.”
Bob remained paralyzed in the snow for the next 20 hours as temperatures plummeted to dangerously low levels. In order to keep Bob awake, Kelsey allegedly laid on top of him, kissing his face and hands.
“She continued yelling for assistance, but I was always there to keep her company. I was kept warm and awake by her presence. For my own survival, I had to keep going through this ordeal “As he was reported to have said
For 19 hours, Bob was outdoors, but Kelsey’s barking kept him awake. Finally, his neighbor, Rick, stumbled into him.
“The shrieking wail she was emitting roused my next-door neighbor to action. At 6:30 p.m. on New Year’s Day, he (Rick) came across me “Bob made the comment.
After getting a phone call from her father’s neighbor, Jenny drove quickly from Grosse Pointe to her father’s house in Detroit.
A McLaren neurosurgeon, Chaim Colen, assessed Bob’s condition.
“Decompression of the spinal cord and stabilization of the patient was performed promptly. When he had surgery, he was able to move his arms and legs with more ease “Colen made the comment.
According to Colen, Bob will need substantial rehabilitation, which he says he’s already started. Last Tuesday, a week after his surgery, he walked 40 steps with the assistance of a walker in rehabilitation…
“One of the primary reasons he lived was because he was scooped up by his neighbor and his dog,” he added.
Also, Colen claimed that Bob was extraordinarily lucky in that he didn’t suffer from frostbite on any of his limbs.”
