He was so successful that he was even featured on national television! Positively, Negão enjoys nothing more than welcoming everyone who walks through the door with an exuberant smile and a wagging tail. In fact, he now has his own outfit, complete with a name tag and everything!
Unfortunately, stray dogs may be found in large numbers across Brazil and other regions of South America. Negão would have been just another drop in the ocean had it not been for the generosity of a nice couple who took him home…
When the gas station was originally being constructed, he would linger about the building site, and the proprietors of the business were the first to meet him. When the residents learned that he had not always been a stray, but had been abandoned, they were sympathetic to his plight.
As soon as they brought Negão home, they took him to the vet to have all of his vaccinations up to date, gave him a warm bath, and put him in a wonderfully comfy bed to sleep in. He soon had a big grin on his face all of the time…
With his constant presence at the gas station’s door, greeting everyone he saw, it wasn’t long before the proprietors promoted him to the position of the official employee.
Negão proved to be such a popular attraction that people were flocking to the station simply to watch him, even when they weren’t in need of gasoline!
His owners had to put up a notice asking people not to bring him goodies because he was growing too fast, which was hilarious! As a result, only toys from the community are permitted to be brought to him.
Negão is constantly at the gas station, save for a few hours each day when he loves to take a stroll about town. The station is open around the clock…
They prefer to refer to this as his “break,” yet he always returns to his job to complete his responsibilities. Everybody knows who he is, and he is treated as though he is a local star everywhere he goes.
