Setting up a safe environment for a fearful dog…

Your property should be completely enclosed and the fence should be high enough to keep your dog from escaping. Make sure there are no gaps in the fence around the perimeter…

Purchase a dog kennel with the correct dimensions (tall enough for the dog to stand in, long enough for the dog to lie down in)…

When you’re out at work or on errands, a cage may help keep your dog safe from destructive chewing, ingesting potentially harmful substances, and escaping while you’re gone (even though doors may be closed and locked, if frightened enough some dogs will jump out of window screens).

If your dog is afraid of crates, you should use baby gates to create a small, safe enclosure for him.

Make sure you have a nylon leash, a collar, and a body harness (ideally a no-pull harness) on hand (good for those dogs that do pull on leash).

Some dogs are fearful of being on a leash, while others are scared of loud noises or passing vehicles.

The leash should be linked to both the collar and the harness to guarantee that your dog doesn’t get out of the harness or collar.

Make sure you buy high-quality dog food, treats, and non-squeaky toys to keep your dog calm and happy.

Ensure that all doors and windows are properly closed and locked and that no windows are left open.

Go to your town hall to get a dog license after you have all of your dog’s documents. It is mandatory for you to get a dog license in order to find your dog if it goes missing.

The microchip tag should be attached to the dog’s collar, and a secondary name tag with the dog’s name and your current phone number should also be purchased…
