Three dogs have been apprehended and their owner is facing charges after the animals attacked six individuals while “terrorizing” a New Jersey neighborhood, according to police. The canines were owned by a woman who has not been identified…
The rampage took place on Monday afternoon in Little Egg Harbor Township, according to police in a written statement. After receiving a report that two people, one in her seventies and the other in his forties, had sustained several dog bites while outdoors, officers went to the scene…
According to Little Egg Harbor Police, when officers got on the scene, they discovered three dogs that were posing a threat to the whole neighborhood. Within an hour, the three had assaulted many residents while police were chasing them down the street.
“There was nothing done by any of the people to incite those animals,” police chief Richard Buzby said.
In addition, “I would characterize as an hour of fear,” he said.
One victim’s doorbell camera captured video of him attempting to fight off the dogs with a stick, which was later uploaded on YouTube.
When the dogs start racing at him across the neighbor’s yard, the man swings the stick repeatedly at them to keep them at away while he backs up from his driveway to his front door…
A few seconds later, a police car with its lights flashing pulls up beside the dogs, seemingly causing them to flee in fear.
The three canines were “well-known” to law enforcement before going on their rampage on Monday afternoon, according to authorities.
Authorities say they’ve received at least seven reports about the same dogs in the previous four months, with a total of six residents being bitten on Monday.
“In all, we have identified at least 12 bite victims, with unconfirmed claims of further bite victims,” police said in a statement…
They went on to say that the dog owner has received a number of summonses in connection with the previous instances. After being taken away by animal control on December 10th, the canines were subsequently restored to their rightful owner…
“These dogs have been nothing but a nuisance to this street and to this community,” Michael Johannsen, a resident in the area, told NBC News.
“It’s a tragic, tragic scenario, and I really hope that something happens to the owners of these dogs, as well as to the dogs themselves, tragically.”
NBC’s attempts for comment were not returned by the business’s owner. The dogs, according to a guy claiming to be his brother, were friendly.
The canines, according to the police, have often escaped from their owner’s yard.
The animals are presently being detained at a shelter pending the outcome of a hearing scheduled for Friday for their owner.
In a statement, the police department said that it would do “all in its power to guarantee that these canines are never returned and that they are not permitted to continue to threaten this neighborhood in the future.”
