After hearing several loud booms on Bonfire Night, Trev the Boxer cross became terrified and burst out a basement window, fleeing into the night.
He was left in the care of his owners, Arieann and Lee Borstal, as they went to pick up a relative from a nearby location.
However, when they returned, they discovered that Trev had gone missing, and they spent the next several days hunting for the dog.
When they returned home, they were shocked to learn that the dog’s dead carcass had been discovered on adjacent railway lines.․․
The corpse had to be identified by Arieann’s father.
Arieann, a 35-year-old woman, stated: “We had just been out of the home for 45 minutes when we returned. When we left, everything was perfectly silent, and Trev seemed to be entirely at ease.”
He was our world, and the kids, particularly Charlie, who is seven, are devastated by his death. He’s never known a time when Trev wasn’t present.․․
“He grew up to be such a sweet, cuddly guy, a huge baby in many ways.․․
“We returned to discover paw prints all over the place and the window had been pushed open, which indicated that things had become very boisterous earlier.․․
“I can only imagine how afraid he must have been.”
Train tracks at Chepstow, South Wales, were the scene of a collision involving Trev.
Arieann, who works as a senior retail manager, went on to say: “An anonymous train driver commented on our local Facebook community page that he’d found a dog’s death on the tracks not far from where we live, and that we should look into it.
“Consequently, I went to the next train station and asked a member of the staff to get Trev for me since I was not permitted on the tracks.
“My father had to identify him, and then we were able to bring him home.”
The young man, Trev, had a difficult beginning to his life, having been taken from his home by the authorities when he was only a year old.
“He was terrified of everyone at first – God knows what he’d been through as a puppy,” said Arieann, a mother of two. “He was terrified of everything after that.”
Since then, the mourning family has received support from their Chepstow neighbors.
Arieann, on the other hand, feels that more should be done to discourage the usage of pyrotechnics.
The mother went on to say: “A large number of people came out to assist us in our hunt. They were quite helpful and showed tremendous politeness toward us. That’s something we’ll never forget.
“Recent developments have included pulling down all of the “missing” posters we had placed throughout Chepstow in our search for Trev, since neither Lee nor I were able to stomach taking them down ourselves at the time.
