Earlier this month, a gamekeeper discovered the Saluki-type dog suffering from “extreme anguish” along Chester Court Road in Camblesforth, North Yorkshire. The gamekeeper called the RSPCA and cared for the sobbing dog until animal rescue officer Dave Holgate came on the spot to take over care of the situation…
Mr. Holgate gently transported the animal, which seemed to have a broken leg and spinal injuries, to his vehicle, where he hurried him to the veterinarian…
The dog was given urgent pain medication and was taken in for an X-ray, which revealed that he had a damaged spinal column…
The veterinarian determined that putting him to sleep would be the most compassionate thing to do in order to alleviate his misery…
The dog was not microchipped, and the RSPCA is looking for assistance in tracing the owner of the canine companion…
Mr. Holgate thinks the animal may have been used in the illegal hunting practice known as “lamping” the night before, which he believes occurred the night before…
“We are aware that North Yorkshire Police officers were sent to the area on Friday evening after receiving complaints of unlawful wildlife offenses being committed, however, it is thought that those responsible had already fled the scene,” he added…
“It seems to be a complete coincidence that this wounded dog was discovered in the exact same pasture the next morning…
“I’m not sure how the dog’s injuries were sustained, but I do know that he was allowed to suffer horribly for many hours.”
The dog was in complete and utter anguish…
It was heartbreaking to see and hear his whimpers…
It is cruel to abandon an animal in such a condition of excruciating pain.”
I’m now interested in hearing from anybody who saw anything odd on the night in question, or who saw any cars in the vicinity that might assist me in locating the vehicle’s owner…
“Or anybody who knows someone who used to have a dog like this but does not seem to be in possession of him anymore.”
