Abandoned by her owners at the age of five, Roxy is now a happy, healthy pet. The RSPCA was able to save her and the West Hatch Animal Centre in Somerset was able to take her in. Staff members, who have worked with police agencies for decades to identify and provide rescue canines, quickly recognized Roxy’s value.․․
The first 10 weeks of Roxy’s career with Avon & Somerset Police were spent learning everything about the many smells she would be trained to detect, as well as how to identify their existence and position.
Once Roxy had worked with the Hampshire and Thames Valley dog units for a few years, she was the only Staffie in the UK serving as an explosives search dog.․․
Having completed their training, Roxy and PC Carter conduct security sweeps ahead of high-profile public events and VIP visits, checking for suspicious items and sweeping locations ahead of Royal and Ministerial visits, as well as reacting to bomb threats and examining private planes.․․
To ensure the safety of VIPs and the general public, we work together to hunt for explosives in various situations.․․
When Princess Beatrice married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in a private ceremony at Windsor Castle last summer, Roxy and I were called in to guard the area for Prince Philip’s burial. ”
