This is the end of May; the night is dark, and the rain is starting to fall. Everyone in the family went hunting for a dog with six pups, which a neighbor had told us about. After circling the area a few times, we eventually saw a silhouette of a dog approximately five meters from the road in the darkness.․․
A chain was jangling around her neck as she stood thin in a muddy puddle, her face covered in grime. Her tail wags as though we’ve known one other for years the moment she sees us.․․
When I turned on my flashlight, I discovered a decaying old booth. It seemed to be ready to disintegrate as it stood in a puddle. When I arrived, I saw that she was chained to the ground.
Puppies sprang out of nowhere as soon as I came closer and started to lick my legs. Because the booth is too tiny, moist, and has a punctured bottom, they were hiding from the rain behind a mound of metal. It looked like this:
We couldn’t believe our eyes when we saw this frightening image. Neither food nor water could be found at the booth. Upon seeing us, the mother dog leaped up and kissed our hands. She must have figured out that we were here to aid her. Meanwhile, the pups were attempting to steal the food-scented package. We began feeding everyone as quickly as possible.
It’s difficult to put into words just how ravenous they were. It was as though they had never seen food before. My jaw dropped when I saw how they ate, and I’ve seen a lot of animals.․․
It’s deja vu all over again. Chicken breast pieces were eaten without chewing, and liquid food flew gone in a second, so we had no time to open additional packages.․․
In a nutshell, it was an extremely difficult experience to see. Wet and muddy, yet delighted because someone cared enough to pay attention to them. Because it was painfully difficult to leave them in such a state, I may have simply taken this whole family to myself if I didn’t already have so many animals at home. The booth is covered in dirt and water, and there seems to be some type of moist cloth inside.․․
This car wash, where the whole dog family had been discovered, has a mother dog “guarding” it, and they have no intention of giving it away, therefore we must find a home for the pups. So it comes down to this: the dog is obligated to guard someone or something, but no one owes her anything.․․
