A Russian rescue dog has managed to outwit the odds and save the life of his owner despite the chances being stacked against him.

As reported by WHNS-TV, the dog, named Monika, is already walking on four new titanium prosthetic legs, just a few months after doctors recommended that she be put to death owing to her senior age.

In recognition of his efforts in performing the procedure that saved Monika’s life, Sergei Gorshkov, a veterinarian located in Novosibirsk, has garnered considerable praise. According to the news source that broke the story, he has performed 37 treatments involving prosthetic limbs on animals since 2015. Monika was the first canine to benefit from his efforts, as reported by the news site that broke the story…

Astounded by how rapidly the dog recovered from the invasive operation, Gorshkov expressed happiness at the prospect of her spending the rest of her life with him, engaging in playful activities, taking walks, and giving him plenty of affection.

Gorshkov said in an interview with CNN, “I don’t think we were optimistic about it at the time.” It was only on the third day that she started getting up and going about the clinic, moving from one room to another,” adds the doctor.

Workers spotted Monika alone and suffering from injuries to all four of her paws in the Russian hamlet of Plastunovskaya in December 2020. Monika had been abandoned and was suffering from injuries to all four of her paws. Theorists have speculated that Monika had been abused and abandoned before she found herself in this condition of circumstances.

Later, Monika was transported to the Russian city of Krasnodar, where she underwent amputations of her limbs and received a blood transfusion. She died a few days later as a result of her injuries.

As a result, shelter employees Marina Gapich and Alla Leonkina took over the care of the dog while grappling with the dilemma of what they should do next. Many people advised that Monika should be put down, but the volunteers were of the opinion that there had to be an alternative…

According to CNN, the two women got in touch with Gorshkov in order to save the dog, and they were able to raise $5,400 to pay the cost of the operation that stopped Monika from being put down.

In addition, Gorshkov expressed his satisfaction at being able to give these species a second opportunity at life.

Further, he said, “Animals bring some comfort to humans, and thus, by curing animals, I am also treating people.”

When Monika has completed her rehabilitation, she will most likely begin working with a London-based animal behaviorist who will aid her in healing through the trauma she has experienced and preparing for a life in a loving home once she has been adopted.
