After being found by mistake on the side of the road by the staff of an animal rescue group in Solapur, India, Champi was unable to be identified as a dog anymore.
When the dog became “stuck to the pavement, unable to move,” and his coat became “covered with coal tar and debris,” the workers of Animal Rahat, which is financed by the PETA organization, rescued him and brought him to their facility.
They worked for four days to fully remove all traces of tar and debris from Champi’s skin, using vegetable and coconut oil to make the treatment as painless as they possibly could.
“Champi must have been in a lot of agonies, however, she stayed strong throughout it all,” according to a video from Animal Rahat, which translates to “relief.”
Champi, who is first seen to be hardly moving and buried in rubble, is shown to transform into a joyous and energetic dog in the movie. Her skin began to mend over time, and she now has a full coat of brown and white fur covering her whole body, including her head.
Her new home is shared with one of her rescuers, and she is surrounded by a variety of different animals, including other dogs and a handful of chickens, to keep her company.
Despite the stress, her sweet and energetic personality began to shine through, and once she was completely tar-free, one of her rescuers decided to adopt her into his family, according to Animal Rahat, which supplied the video description of the rescue. In the meanwhile, she spends her days wandering the fields at her new home and playing with her animal buddies, who include numerous rescued chickens, while her hair grows back.
It was said in the video’s description that “nothing will be able to prevent her from living her finest life.”
