An eight-year-old shelter dog in New Jersey has finally found his forever home after seven years of waiting patiently.․․

It was well worth the wait!

It took Brooklyn the dog over seven years, or 2,536 days to be exact, in the New Jersey shelter system before he was adopted into a permanent family. The Hamilton Township Animal Shelter and Adoption Center in Trenton, New Jersey, announced the good news on its Facebook page.

In all, 2,536 days elapsed between the time of her birth and her adoption. On August 15, the shelter shared a picture of the dog with her new home, as well as a description of the situation.

“Thank you to everyone who has contributed to making our dream a reality. Taking care of her requires a community, which includes volunteers, employees, her foster father, and everyone who has shared her story on social media.”

It was just a few days before this revelation that the shelter put out a call on Facebook seeking a foster home for Brooklyn.

“Please assist us in finding a foster home for this lovely young lady so that she does not have to return to the shelter.

Brooklyn had spent almost 7 years at the shelter, and now that she’s spent the last 6 weeks in a foster home, we don’t want to destroy her spirit by returning her to the same lonely kennel run where she spent the previous 7 years “On August 10, the shelter sent out a letter.
