Baby Yoda’s breed was unidentifiable when she was rescued by the Arizona Humane Society (AHS) in early February from “horrific circumstances.” She is now seven years old.
The German Shepherd, on the other hand, has found a happy ending over five months later: she has been placed in a loving home.
In a press release from the American Humane Society, Baby Yoda was described as “nearly completely hairless, covered in scabs, and unable to comfortably settle down” because she was scratching her irritated skin until it bled when she arrived for treatment in their Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital.
It went on to say that she also required considerable dental treatment and was in “severe agony,” but that she “kept the loveliest attitude” despite her circumstances. Baby Yoda’s terrible ordeal brought tears to the eyes of AHS veterans who have worked in the animal care field for years.
Dr. Melissa Thompson, the American Humane Society’s Vice President of medical operations, stated in a video shot midway through the dog’s recuperation that “If you looked at Baby Yoda, you wouldn’t be able to know that it was a German Shepherd.” “There are a few of hairs that are sticking out of her head.”
“All of her hair loss is due to her scratching and itching, which has caused so much damage to her hair follicles that the hair is falling out,” she said further. The process doesn’t happen overnight; rather, it takes a long time. “This poor puppy has had a very bad day.”
Yoda has had skin mite treatment, which has included medicinal baths, low-level laser therapy, and oral drugs to alleviate her itching. Despite the fact that she will need medical assistance for the rest of her life, mostly owing to allergies, her months of rehabilitation have prepared her for a new home and a family to call her own.
We couldn’t tell what she was when we picked her up because you couldn’t tell. It was little more than a jumble of creases. The fact that she was a dog, much alone what breed she was, was completely undetectable,” Tracey Miiller, AHS’ field operations manager, stated in a press statement. “Now she’s all cuddly and soft!”
