What a fantastic concept! In a heartfelt effort to get pups from local shelters adopted, Zenit St Petersburg’s players put on a beautiful performance with puppies from local shelters as they go out for a game while cradling the poodles…

With the help of their teammates, Zenit St Petersburg’s players have come up with a paw-some concept in an adorable bid to get pups adopted from local shelters in Russia.

The starting XI of FC Rostov went out onto the field with the dogs in their arms before their encounter against them in the Russian Premier League on Sunday.

Although this is not the first time that football has joined with organizations to give dogs their forever homes, Zenit’s charming exhibition warmed the hearts of those in attendance on a cold evening.

“Dogs are better at home,” says the ad, which launched soon after the nation and its residents celebrated World Pet Day on November 30.

Founded in collaboration with the Russian Kynological Foundation, Zenit began the community initiative and enlisted members of their first-team squad to assist with the endeavor.

At the Gazprom Arena, 11 fluffy pups of different breeds were brought out and gently paraded in front of the television cameras that were filming the event live.

The participants hoped that by doing so, they would encourage spectators to adopt animals from shelters.

In less than 24 hours after it was released, the video showing the crew going out with the dogs has already received millions of views on Twitter, demonstrating the power of social media.

Zenit thanked her fans for their heartfelt support, and she concluded with the words: ‘Now let’s find homes for these lovely boys and girls.”

‘The project’s goal is to create awareness among the general public about the responsibilities and care that come with owning a pet, as well as to generate cash for local dog shelters,’ the organizers said.

Immediately before to the match, the Zenit XI was unveiled on the stadium’s television screen through a live feed.

There was a refreshing change of pace this time around. When the players appeared on the screen, they were shown alongside photographs and biographies of canines that were searching for a new home.

Despite needing two early goals against the league leaders, Rostov were pegged back twice and had to settle for a decent 2-2 draw against Zenit.

For the hosts, Claudinho scored twice in an exciting match, and the loss of points means that they are now in 11th position, safely out of the relegation zone.

As for Zenit, they maintain their lead at the top of the table with 37 points, five points ahead of second-placed Dynamo Moscow, who still have a game in hand.
