Dogs are just interested in participating in the game. At least, such was the case for one overeager pooch who, over the weekend, disrupted a match between two professional Turkish soccer teams at an Istanbul stadium.
Aside from being a stray distraction, the canine invader was obviously there to demonstrate his superior ball-handling abilities, successfully avoiding players’ efforts to recover the ball for almost 20 seconds with some outstanding skills that even the game’s announcer had to admire.
Eventually, it was coaxed off the field — but only for a short time, as it reappeared on the sidelines later in the game, brimming with boundless enthusiasm.
According to Reuters, it was a player, midfielder Zeki Yildirim, who was eventually responsible for picking up the dog and transporting it to a more safe location so that the two sides could continue their game without hairier (though admittedly delicious) disruptions.
Fatih Karagumruk Spor, the club led by Yildirim, defeated the visiting team Giresunspor 2-1 in the last game of the season. Perhaps the dog served as a covert edge for the home side. Alternatively, it’s possible that they should adopt it as an unofficial mascot, given how enthusiastic the audience was.
No of how it happened, kudos to this canine for finding out how to sneak onto the field, taking the ball from hired players, and earning the hearts of a whole new audience. Excellent canine!
