Martina Russo and her spouse Fil were driving their van through the Spanish countryside near Moclin, in the province of Granada, when they observed a little dog coming after them with unrelenting determination.
Although they first believed the Shorkie (a hybrid between a Shih Tzu and a Yorkshire terrier) was just having fun, they soon saw the desperation in her run, as if she were imploring them to stop playing with her toys.
A grateful dog, with overgrown fur, gunky eyes, and ticks all over him, rushed into their arms as the couple pulled over on the side of the highway.
“We were traveling through the middle of the Spanish countryside when this dog emerged out of nowhere and began running after our vehicle,” SWNS spoke with Martina Russo, who is originally from Milan, Italy.
It started off as a game, but we quickly noticed something wasn’t quite right since she was running at a breakneck pace and wouldn’t come to a halt.
Martina and Fil provided the starving dog with food and water before transporting her around the surrounding towns in an attempt to locate her owner.
After doing a thorough internet search, they decided to keep her and call her Moxie after being unable to locate a home for the dog.
“We questioned all of the farms in the area, as well as the local shelter, but no one knew who she was. When Martina and Fil went looking for Moxie’s family, they “examined every home and farm in the region, but the majority of them were abandoned,” Martina recounts their hunt with Fil.
“We drove back and placed her back in the road to check whether she was pursuing joy and understood how to find her way back. She did.” Nevertheless, she continued to pursue us – our van was only around the corner, and we drove very carefully so as not to upset her.
‘We brought her to the doctor the following day, and it turned out that she was not chipped or spayed, and that she was a female approximately one year old with overgrown hair and a buildup of muck around her eyes,’ the new owner explains.
“We continued to look for her owners in local Facebook and Whatsapp groups, as well as among local passers-by at the fountain and in nearby businesses, but after many weeks, no one came forward, so we decided to keep her.”
Now, the dog that no one wanted is content and adored in her new life as a traveling companion. Moxie goes with her adoring new owners and their feline companions as they take in the sights of Europe.
“She’s really nice and amusing, quite lively, and she adores our cats – to be honest, she loves everything and everyone!” (especially cats and kids). When it comes to the pup’s disposition, Martina added, “We like bringing her on outings, and she makes us laugh every day.”
Because we live in a van for most of the year, Moxie joins us on long walks in the mountains or when we go rock climbing. Each day is a new experience for Moxie at this point,” her pet dad said.
