A dog was caught within a storm drain at a Boston park for more than two and a half hours on Wednesday before being liberated by a team of rescue workers.
A four-year-old foxhound rescue dog named Hubert became stuck inside the drainage pipe at Millennium Park in West Roxbury after sneaking into the drain while running off-leash with his walker at around 2 p.m., according to Boston25 News. Hubert was rescued from a shelter in New York and brought to Massachusetts.
“This is a one really fortunate puppy. It’s beyond comprehension “According to the publication, one of the dog’s two owners spoke to reporters on the scene.
When the dog was recovered, Brian Alkins of the Boston Fire Department said that it was in “excellent condition” and “delighted to get out.”
In an interview with WCVB, Alkins remarked that after the rescue, “everyone got together in the city for a common cause and it turned out well.”
Upon learning of Hubert’s predicament, a large number of rescuers hurried to the area to assist in saving the pet, which had been adopted by his family four years earlier, according to Boston25 News. The more rescuers attempted to summon Hubert out of the pipe, the more he drifted away from the rescuers.
One Boston Drain employee told reporters that the pooch’s large size was a source of frustration at times.
In the words of the Boston Drain worker: “He’s a bit overweight like some of us.” “It’s a 16-inch piece of pipe. As a result, he is unable to turn around while traveling ahead.”
Having exhausted all other options, firemen cut holes in the pipe and used a camera to follow the dog that was trapped within. National Grid subsequently employed a backhoe to “dig past the dog,” according to the company.
Eventually, firemen were able to locate the dog, rescue him, and return him to his overjoyed owners.
“He’s simply such a wonderful puppy,” one of the owners expressed delight. “He simply has such a good disposition.”
Hubert’s owners are grateful to every department that participated in the rescue that resulted in the safe removal of their dog, called Bubba, from the sewage pipe.
