Bubbles the dog has regained his tail wags after being entangled beneath a collapsing building.
After receiving a request from the Louisiana SPCA to help with disaster relief efforts after Hurricane Id, the Humane Rescue Alliance, located in Washington, D.C., sent four rescuers to New Orleans on Tuesday to assist with disaster relief operations following Hurricane Id.
The Humane Rescue Alliance’s crisis response team was on the ground in Orleans Parish on Wednesday, assisting with animal control calls and other emergencies.
While responding to these calls, a worried local waived down the rescue crew and alerted them to a dog trapped beneath a collapsed shed that had been destroyed by Hurricane Ida, which was rescued.
Several members of the rescue team and police from the Louisiana SPCA worked together to free the dog, who was eventually named Bubbles, from under the shed. In the course of the rescue operation, the rescuers discovered that the canine was chained and entangled in hurricane debris.
According to the Humane Rescue Alliance, Bubbles had most likely been tied up beneath the shed, without food or water, since Hurricane Ida passed through New Orleans on Sunday. On Wednesday, the rescuers cautiously raised the shed just high enough to reach Bubbles and unchain the dog from its chain.
Bubbles’ personality changed from being terrified to being quite sociable as soon as he was let out of the shed, according to the Humane Rescue Alliance.
Following the rescue, the reaction team drove the devoted pup to the Louisiana SPCA, where he was allowed to cool down and see a veterinarian. The SPCA’s team is presently engaged in efforts to track down the dog’s owners.
