Duffy, an 8-year-old Irish Terrier, went blind as a result of diabetes.
“Seeing this dog I grew up with, who I believe to be a very dear friend, crushed my heart…
I keep banging into things and I’m not sure who I’m speaking to…
“I’m just suffering,” Benjamin said of Duffy on Reddit.
Diabetes causes diabetic dogs to lose 75 percent of their vision. It’s a fast-moving condition that takes a year to completely blind the dog.
In the case of Duffy, the change from complete eyesight to total blindness took approximately five months.
“In about 3-5 months, he went from being a fully normal 8-year-old dog to being completely blind,” Benjamin recounted.
Diabetes, like diabetes in people, has no cure in dogs. Though, his diabetes was controlled with medication recommended by the veterinarians. They then began working on his eyes. Duffy’s family was happy to fund the $5000 cost of the treatment.
The surgery was such a SUCCESS!
Duffy was overjoyed and licked everyone in the room. He was overjoyed to meet his owner and family. His tail was wagging from side to side.
As a rescue dog, Duffy has a number of health difficulties. His parents, Benjamin May, and his family, nevertheless, wanted to provide him with the best life possible.
Based on the dog’s reactions, they’ve done an outstanding job so far.
