Even animals appreciate a small act of kindness that goes a long way. Bob Hoelter chose to walk to his favorite store one night instead of driving. As he was crossing a bridge to get to the store, he heard a weak and forlorn scream from below.
He looked for the injured beast beneath and around the bridge. When he finally saw him, he was heartbroken to see a terrified puppy with his lips taped shut.
The poor puppy had been tossed from the bridge by his prior owners. Hoelter hurried the dog to the nearest facility, Griffith Animal Hospital. Lori Kovavich, the hospital’s manager, prioritized the puppy’s care.
The first thing they did was remove the tape that had severely injured the flesh around his muzzle. They administered antibiotic ointment and medicines to him. They also discovered that the puppy had a damaged limb that needed to be repaired. They constructed a nice bed for the puppy after they finished the initial treatment.
After the puppy’s story went viral, a local family, The Wittings, immediately fell in love with him and decided to adopt him, naming him Louie.
The man who rescued the dog was unknown at the time because he simply took him to the clinic and departed without saying anything, but Hoelter’s niece saw the clinic’s Facebook post about Louie’s story and arranged for their reunion.
When the dog was reunited with his hero, he immediately recognized him and hurried to show him all the love he could; it was his way of returning the man who had saved his life.
Louie couldn’t stop licking Hoelter’s face. Nobody expected Louie to recognize his idol, but dogs never disappoint.
Today, Louie lives with the Wittings, his new family, but we know he will never forget the guy who saved his life.
