This heartwarming story shows the value of never losing hope.
In 2012, Kavik and Konan, two dogs owned by Stevie Rodger, slipped over a fence outside his home in Scotland. He looked around and saw they were in a farmer’s sheep field.
The farmer cruelly shot both dogs, killing Konan. Kavik got hurt but ran.
No one responded to their posters or prize offer after months of seeking. In addition to his last known whereabouts, they have two phone numbers to contact if they have any information.
“Kavik is a daddy’s boy who may or may not react when summoned. If you see him, please call one of these numbers and report his location. He’ll be afraid and need veterinarian help. Thank you.”
They were devastated by the loss of their pets and knew they would never see Kavik again.
But eight years later, they got a call from Birmingham, 300 miles away, about their long-lost dog. The workers recognized the underweight German shepherd mix as Kavik from Dog Lost and contacted Stevie.
He couldn’t believe his ears and drove nearly four hours the next day to reunite with his pet. He only had to look at the thin pup to identify Kavik. The 10-year-old dog immediately recognized his father, and tears flowed.
“A few days later, I was in the same place as him. It was a sad reunion. His absence was eight years, but he has re-integrated well,” Stevie told the Metro.
They slept on the couch the first night. He was transported to the vet for blood work and an exam the next day. He has a tumor on his back, is dehydrated, and is underweight. Currently, he is being fed small meals to help him gain weight.
“We’re up for it and doing it with glad hearts,” the family said, despite the long journey ahead.
Stevie calls the amazing reunion a “Christmas miracle.” Now that the family has their beloved pet puppy back, they plan to ‘pay it forward.’
