After 500 days of waiting, a shelter dog was eventually adopted and given a heartfelt send-off to her new home.
Bonita, a 6 years old mixed breed dog, was seen jumping for delight and wagging her tail as staff at the Niagara SPCA animal shelter threw confetti, cheered, and clapped as her new owners led her out of the building.
On August 13, 2018, Bonita came to the shelter. Despite her charming demeanor, she had difficulty finding a home because she couldn’t live with little children or other dogs.
However, owing to the hard work of the staff and new sponsorship, a potential adopter stopped by on December 11, 2019. Ray Kinz thought Bonita was the dog for him and wanted to adopt her!
The shelter couldn’t keep their excitement in control and wrote:
“Bonita, our senior resident, has found her forever home after nearly 500 DAYS in our shelter!!! We really cannot control our joy and excitement for this wonderful baby. Thank you to these wonderful people who came in and asked which dog had been here the longest and then gave Bonita the best Christmas present she could have wished for…a home!!!”
Bonita left the shelter the next day, smiling and very cheerful.
And how is Bonita adjusting to her new surroundings? “Bonita had a lovely first night at home,” the Niagara SPCA said, adding that “she chose the huge bed” close to her new dad, of course.
