Botswana is a landlocked country in Southern Africa that floods seasonally. However, there are abandoned and injured dogs in Botswana.
The story of this paralyzed Botswanian dog has touched millions. The poor dog had to slog for kilometers asking for help with a fractured spine.
A team of volunteers led by Susanne Vogel saved the small puppy. They were working on a project to reduce elephant-human confrontations.
When the squad looked up, they saw the miserable puppy dragging herself towards their lonely tent. When the puppy saw the volunteer team, she approached them for assistance. Poppy, the poor puppy, plainly needed help.
“She crawled into our study camp, her back legs completely immobile. Invalid, yet full of love and seeking help,” Susanne said.
The team assessed Poppy’s condition right away. The unfortunate puppy had evidently been in an accident that fractured her spine and paralyzed her. They cleaned, nourished, and transported the injured animal to the clinic. But they didn’t get good news.
Poppy was examined and discovered to be seven months old. Surgery could save the tiny dog, but her odds of survival were slim.
But the researchers held on. They knew Poppy was unique. Poppy couldn’t risk surgery, so she started doing therapy and exercises to strengthen her legs.
During this time, volunteers raised funds for Poppy’s future care and medical expenditures. They respectfully urged the public to assist save Poppy’s life, and animal lovers worldwide leaped at the opportunity.
In the end, the brave pup became stronger and can now stand on her own two legs. Poppy isn’t well enough for surgery, but she doesn’t seem to be in discomfort.
Poppy got her own pair of wheels to race on, and she loved it! Not only that, but the gorgeous, lively pooch found his perfect home.
MaryBeth Hastings, from Washington, D.C., brought her back to America. Poppy has just begun delightful days with her family!
