Dogs are man’s greatest friend, and they know how to express their appreciation for everything their owners do for them, but humans don’t always reward the friendship.
Larry, an 8-year-old dog, was discovered living on the streets after his family moved away and left him behind. With nowhere else to go, the dog took up residence in the parking lot of a landscaping company across the street from his former dwelling. He subsisted on the kindness of passing motorists who would throw him leftovers to eat.
One delivery driver created an Instagram account for the dog. That seemingly insignificant effort assisted in bringing Larry’s tale to Sasha Abelson, president of Love Leo Rescue. She and other volunteer rescuers were able to transport him to Los Angeles for medical treatment.
They noted the old dog’s tummy was bloated despite not having regular access to food or water for months, and he was missing patches of hair on his legs and had difficulty walking. Larry was also suffering from Cushing’s disease, a disorder caused by a benign tumor on the pituitary gland.
Though the dog appeared forlorn, he nevertheless wagged his tail for his rescuers, and his rescuers would not give up on saving this adorable creature. Larry’s health improved for a month and a half, and he began seeking him forever home, but he still had a few obstacles.
Larry has been adopted three times and returned to the rescue three times due to a run of ill luck.
Larry’s health troubles are handled by a monthly prescription that will cost his owners roughly $180 each month.
Unfortunately, this may be one of the reasons why many people choose not to adopt Larry.
