In many ways, Byrne’s life with Shelby was very straightforward. However, the dog’s owner noticed something peculiar about his pet’s interactions with the garbage collector one day. As a result, he installed a secret camera to record the two of them.
The device recorded the garbage collector driving up to Byrne’s house in his truck. The man got out of the car and walked up to the grass. So yet, nothing extraordinary has occurred. But then something very special happened…
Shelby rushed towards the garbage man as soon as she saw him approach. As she did so, the man leaned down to offer her a reward. When the dog got close enough, he grabbed her with both hands and enthusiastically caressed her.
Shelby is clearly enjoying all of the attention as she wags her fluffy tail. However, after a few moments, the dog thinks enough is enough. She then returned to the side of her onlooking owner, demonstrating her true commitment. She didn’t stay there long, though.
The dog returned to her admirer with a bone in her jaws as Byrne, and the man began to converse. She then swirled around his legs again, attempting to re-capture his attention. But this time, it didn’t work.
Fortunately for Shelby, the cute encounter was not likely to be her last with the garbage man. According to her owner, she adores him, and the affection is mutual. And their friendship is incredibly heartwarming to Byrne.
In fact, he was so taken with their interactions that he decided to upload the clip he’d shot to YouTube. In the caption, he stated that how the man treated his dog restored his faith in humanity. “Every week, the garbage collector takes the time (two quality mins) to greet my pup and say hello,” he wrote. “Who said lovely individuals are hard to come by?”
