Jesse and Tara had no idea what they were getting themselves into when they decided to adopt Kaya the Pit Bull.
Kaya had been lost on someone’s farm and was transferred to an animal shelter, where she was discovered by Raincoast Dog Rescue. Jesse and Tara brought Kaya home, completely unaware of the surprise Kaya had in store for them.
She was really underweight when she first arrived at their house. But Jesse and Tara saw she was gaining weight quickly. She was, in fact, pregnant!
Kaya began to give birth months later. After two days and 15 puppies, one more puppy arrived. Tara had never seen a mother dog so exhausted. But there are 16 puppies! Kaya proved to be an excellent mother.
The puppies were all ready to go to their forever homes when they were 9 weeks old. Jesse and Tara discovered they couldn’t part with Kaya or one of her offspring, Sefina, once the puppies were gone.
