After being hit by a car, Sanford was seen staggering through the streets of Dallas.
The dog was unable to walk normally and was reported to the local animal control office right away.
Rescuers discovered an old bullet wound in the dog’s right hind paw, in addition to injuries after being hit by a car.
Sanford was then brought to the nearest shelter. Because the shelter lacked cash, no one was going to treat the dog.
He sat in a cage, his head lowered, his eyes begging at everyone who passed by.
The dog lingered at the shelter for a week without care or special attention until a volunteer from the local rescue charity Dallas DogRRR came there one day.
The volunteer did not hesitate after seeing the plight of Sanford.
“He was shattered. He didn’t even try to stand up or wag his tail as our volunteer approached him… “It appeared that he had given up and was simply waiting for his time to come,” says the center’s director.
The center’s employees decided to assist the poor youngster as quickly as possible.
They removed him from the shelter and sent him to a veterinary clinic for treatment, where physicians did everything possible to save Sanford’s paw and restore his will to live.
Everything worked out in the end.
Sanford went to volunteer Karen for temporary housing after being discharged.
Sanford sat in the front seat the entire trip to the guardian’s house, and his “smile” never left his face.
It was impossible to recognize the once unhappy beaten dog in this smiling creature.
Sanford never stopped smiling after that.
He couldn’t help but express his thanks to those who had saved him!
Now, the dog goes on daily walks, plays with other dogs, and simply enjoys a life that he could not have imagined a few months ago.
