This is a wonderful story about a dog that defied the odds by battling for his life and was eventually rescued by the most ideal human.
The little puppy was suffering from the fatal parvovirus and seizures in a Florida shelter. His prognosis was dismal, but that didn’t stop NFR Maine, a rescue and foster group, from attempting to preserve his life. They took in the small pup and relocated him north in the hopes of curing him and finding him a forever home.
When the dog arrived in Maine, NFR Maine noticed he had another problem: he was deafeningly deafeningly deafeningly deafeningly deafeningly deafeningly deafeningly deafeningly deafening The vet couldn’t tell if the pup was born with the condition or picked it up during his illness, but it would be another hurdle for the tough little dog to overcome as they tried to find him the perfect home.
NFR Maine posted about the 2-week-old dog on social media, hoping for the best. They were confident that the now-happy puppy would make an excellent pet for the appropriate person. And just the appropriate person stepped forward!
Nick Abbott, 31, of Maine, was deaf from birth. He was confident that he would understand the dog’s specific demands and be able to provide the pup with a wonderful existence. He immediately completed the adoption paperwork and had a new best friend named Emerson within 24 hours.
When Emerson and Nick first met, they hit it off right away. Nick began teaching the puppy basic sign language right away. The two have no issue speaking, and Emerson has grown to entirely trust Nick. The two are lovely, and Nick barks every time he touches Emerson’s earlobe!
Emerson and Nick are overjoyed and grateful to have met. We are grateful to NFR Maine for rescuing Emerson from the shelter and providing him with the opportunity to find love in the arms of his new owner.
