You never know what images you’ll find on a trail camera. Deer, raccoons, and even coyotes are typical sightings. A trail cam may occasionally capture something truly special, such as these wonderful images of a husky and a deer making friends.
It all started in December when Rachel Howatt’s husky, Koda, wandered away from their home in Manitoba, Canada. Rachel looked everywhere for Koda, including the woods outside their house, but she couldn’t find her.
Rachel was concerned about her puppy and hoped she could find her unhurt. Koda returned home seemingly happy and healthy after a few days, much to Rachel’s relief.
“I unmistakably sought for her everywhere,” Rachel explained, “but in the end, she just came back herself.” She’s incredibly bright, so I had no doubt she’d find her way home.”
Although Rachel was relieved to have Koda back home, she couldn’t help but wonder what her dog had been up to while she was gone. After a few days, she asked her neighbor to check their game camera footage for any images of Koda.
The camera did, indeed, capture images of Koda beginning with the first day she ran away from home. The photographs also offered a vivid picture of why Koda did not immediately come home.
She was apparently busy making friends with a male deer she encountered in the woods! The pair can plainly be seen sniffing each other, eating, and even sleeping with the husky curled up at her side.
The two of them are so cute that one has to wonder what sparked their strange friendship, given that large wild canines are natural predators of deer. But there they are, unafraid and plainly enjoying each other’s company. What wonderful companions they are!
