A month after the Camp Fire, a woman who returned to inspect what was remained of her house was startled and happy to discover that her dog had survived.
Andrea Gaylord returned home to Paradise, California, where she said her beloved dog, Madison, was anxiously waiting for her.
“You couldn’t ask for a more perfect animal,” Gaylord remarked. “You couldn’t do it.”
Gaylord suspected Madison had survived the fire, so she contacted Shayla Sullivan, an animal rescue volunteer, who checked on their property.
Sullivan was originally seeking for and caring for Gaylord’s second dog, Miguel. Miguel and Madison are siblings. Sullivan said she maintained checking on Gaylord’s property and left Madison, an Anatolian shepherd mix, food, and water.
Gaylord returned home after the evacuation orders were lifted to inspect the damage for herself. Madison was waiting for her when she arrived at the property.
“Imagine the loyalty of sticking it out in the harshest of conditions and being here waiting,” Gaylord remarked. “It was quite emotional.”
