Paxton Williams, a 4-year-old boy from Minnesota, USA, lost his right leg due to an infection a few years ago.
He has always desired to form a genuine friendship. And, with the support of his parents, he was able to obtain a golden retriever named Marvel who lacked a right front paw.
Barb Felt, a dog breeder, met the Williams family through mutual friends. The boy’s therapist came upon a Facebook post about a dog without a paw. They were looking for her a loving home.
The therapist contacted the breeder and informed her about a patient with similar specialization.
“From the moment she (the dog – Marvel) was born, we knew she had a specific role.” “We wanted the puppy to go to someone who also has a limb difference,” she explained.
“It was love at first sight,” the boy’s father, Blaine, recalls. The kids giggled, played with Marvel, and rolled around on the floor with her.
“It was quite dramatic and heartfelt.” “He kept saying, ‘Excellent girl, good girl,'” Stephanie, Paxton’s mother, recounted.
Paxton’s mother stated that the addition of the dog to the household enhanced her son’s activity, which had a direct impact on the development of his athletic ability.
“It allows him to tell other kids, ‘Oh, she doesn’t have enough paws, she looks like me.'” And it gives him a voice to defend himself,'” the woman explained.
There’s no doubt that their unique friendship will continue to grow. Marvel currently moves on three legs, but she will be able to use a wheelchair or prosthesis if necessary.
