On Sunday, about 3 a.m., a homeless man named César was admitted to a hospital in Brazil to be treated for a health problem. Cris Mamprim and the other staff members who were caring for him observed that their new patient did not arrive alone. His four stray dogs stood guard at the door, refusing to go until they knew their companion was okay.
The nurses noticed that the dogs were being fed better than most stray canines she had seen. They’re all fat and well-cared-for. César frequently cares about the dogs by scavenging for food or foregoing eating for himself in order to keep the dogs fed. Before César was ready to go, the staff decided to feed him and invite his dogs inside so they could partake in the meal as well. They also offered César some food.
