Tracey Fowler of Mendon, Vermont, has dedicated her life to rescuing puppies that most people would pass by in animal shelters.
She has focused on growing her new pack since the loss of her beloved German Shepherd Hayden, and they are now number eight. Meet The Fowler Herd, a litter of special needs pups who were previously unadopted but have now found a happy home.
“Hayden crossed the Rainbow Bridge after a battle against a dog sickness called degenerative myelopathy,” she told Bored Panda.
He was a special needs dog that suffered from paralysis in his senior years as a result of the horrifying sickness. Tracey claims that this did not destroy Hayden’s spirit, and he continued to play until his dying day.
In memory of Hayden, Tracey resolved to make a difference in the lives of other dogs like him. “I currently have eight dogs as pets.” Six are special needs and two are [German Shepherds I had before adopting the others].”
The Fowler Herd not only enjoys Tracey’s love and attention, but they also get along well with one another.
Tracey likes to swap the wheels on each of their chairs for skis when it snows on the farm so they can continue playing outside. “Adopting a special needs pet may not be for you if you are terrified of poop and urine.” If you don’t mind it, it’s no different than if they were walking.”
“Our goal is to teach one owner that there is another alternative other than saying goodbye [to their sick pet].”
