Russ visited Lake Tahoe in August 2021. Russ escaped during their journey, but the man was unable to find him due to the Caldor Fire. People were told to urinate, so Russ’ pater fled Lake Tahoe, unsure if he’d ever see the doggie again.
Following the fire, the man admitted that Russ had not survived. After months of no news, he gave up on the stopgap. But, unbeknownst to him, his canine was not willing to give up that easily. Someone discovered a dog in an unexpected location in December 2021, four months after Russ went away.
A skier in the woods noticed a dark figure hunched beneath a tree. They observed a dog encircled by snow, and he sounded unable to move. When they attempted to help the dog, he growled. As a result, the person kept their distance and placed prints of the lonely canine on the internet. Tahoe PAWS and TLC 4 Furry Musketeers reacted immediately when they saw it.
Kyle Shumaker of El Dorado County Animal Services attempted to bring the dog, but the snow was five bases thick. So TLC 4 Furry Musketeers volunteers Leona Allen and Elsa Gaule donned on snowshoes and followed canine tracks up the mountain.
Allen assumed the dog was dead when she spotted him coiled up in the snow. Allen approached him and made no movements at first.
” So I walked over, and he opened his eyes and lifted his head unexpectedly, and I yelled. “It was just involuntary,” Allen explained.
Allen and Gaule were kind with the dog, taking their time to win his trust. To keep him warm, they clothed him in a mask and placed him on a levy’s stage on a sled. Officer Shumaker brought him to the vet after he descended the snowy mountain.
Stagers noticed the dog had a microchip, which confirmed that he is Russ, the dog that went missing four months ago. When levies informed Russ’ mortal that his furry companion was still alive, he was ecstatic.
“This is what we’re supposed to do as a deliverance association,” Allen stated. ” I keep replaying the moment he opened his eyes and lifted his head, and the excitement in myself was welcoming. It’s one more life that gets to live happily, warmly, and securely.”
It’s incredible that Russ lasted so long by himself, especially when surrounded by deep snow. However, precautions should always be taken, and this story is a wonderful reminder to microchip your pet and keep their contact information up to current.
