Nothing is impossible in nature. Even if the animals are significantly different, there are situations when they are capable of adopting the young of another species. This is the story of a mother dog that had lost her puppies and had adopted 3 young kittens who needed a mom.
Stacee Jones, an animal rescuer who has cared for over 100 dogs and cats, says she thought she had seen it all until she took in four creatures who needed one another at Jelly’s Place shelter in San Pablo, California, where she works.
Jones was initially called to assist a small dog that had been abandoned on the street behind a dumpster. Unfortunately, the dog had recently lost her puppies, therefore she was adopted.
They had one more idea in the rescue center, though. Three kittens had lately been orphaned, so Jelly’s Place authorities asked Jones whether they might combine these three kittens with the dog that had lost its puppies. Jones agreed to take on what appeared to be a challenging mission.
“I was quite cautious (…) I sat next to the puppy mom and next to a kitten.” I showed her the kitten slowly at first to see how she reacted. Jones told The Dodo, “I was concerned she’d growl or not take it well.”
She initially watched the event warily and closely, hoping to safeguard the kitten from any dangerous dog action. However, she soon recognized that something great had occurred. “The dog immediately accepted the first kitten and licked it,” Jones explained.
According to Jones, this is how the little dog developed a “maternal” mindset and started nursing the kittens. She claimed that she burst into tears at that point. “I thought to myself, ‘This is so wonderful.'” This is something I’ve never seen before. “It all came together so quickly as if it were meant to,” she said.
The three kittens are being raised by their mother dog and are available for adoption. According to the woman who rescued them, they sometimes act more like dogs than cats, but they have already developed personalities and social abilities.
