One of the main concerns that parents have when introducing a newborn into a family that already has a puppy is that the pooch will feel neglected because the majority of the parents’ attention will naturally focus on the infant. According to a recent study, this fear is not as far-fetched as many people believe.
Dogs, it turns out, are envious and compete for attention. And when you stop to think about it, it all makes sense. After all, many dog owners lavish attention and care on their pets as if they were children.
When some of that attention is taken away, kids are sure to respond in some way. And all of a sudden, everything becomes a competition, with sometimes funny outcomes. What’s going on in the video below certainly meets the bill.
In the video, a mother is shown trying to encourage her infant to say “Mama,” and as a treat, she offers a bite of food from her plate. She has no idea, however, that the family dog is equally interested in what she has to offer and is ready to go to great lengths to obtain it. As a result, the race to see who can say the word the fastest begins.
Although the baby is clearly trying to speak the word, the dog simply wanted the food more than she did. And, believe it or not, it’s the lovely and incredibly bright dog who wins by being the first to say ‘Mama.’ Have you seen anything like this before?
