When Aurora, a 3-year-old girl from Queensland, Australia, went missing in the woods near her home, a massive search was started to find her. In addition to Aurora’s family and the police, 100 volunteers assisted in the search for the young child.
She was finally discovered and returned home safe after a 15-hour search. Max, her senior dog, a 17-year-old blue heeler who is both deaf and partially blind, is responsible for all of this. When no one could find her, Max the dog approached Aurora’s grandma and brought the family to her location.
“I shot up the mountain, and when I got to the top, the dog came to me and took me right to her,” Aurora’s grandma, Leisa Bennett, told a local TV station.
Max had spotted Aurora and stayed with her overnight before informing others of her existence the next morning. She’d been missing for 15 hours, but happily, she was in good health when the search crew discovered her.
Max is old, deaf, and blind, yet he didn’t let that stop him from protecting his young human. He stayed with Aurora all night, making certain she stayed warm.
“He never took his eyes off her. She smelled like a dog and slept with one.” Bennet elaborated…
After all, it was Max’s initiative that led to the discovery of Aurora, a three-year-old girl. It could have been a long time before Aurora was discovered if Max hadn’t found and stayed with her. He is now being hailed as a hero after being credited with saving the baby’s life.
Max’s brave actions in the hunt were recognized by the Queensland Police Department, who chose to designate him an honorary dog. The police department tweeted images of Max with the caption:
“MAX, YOU’RE SUCH A GOOD BOY! He stayed with his 3-year-old human, who went missing near Warwick last night, while we desperately looked for her. You’re now an honorary police dog for keeping her safe.”
