A Good Samaritan was driving through a large field near the town of Elphin, Ireland when he was stopped by the agonizing howls of a pup.
The man was shocked to find a nursing mother dog tethered to a fence and stretching herself out to obtain food.
The father observed that the six newborn puppies had yet to open their eyes. The children clung desperately to their famished mother, whose short-chain had been totally entangled in the fence.
She couldn’t even move her head. Whoever discarded them had never given a thought to their survival in the desolate area. The man rescued the distraught family and transported them to Longford’s ISPCA National Animal Centre.
The mama dog was discovered to be a two-year-old with no microchip, which is unlawful under local rules. Aside from being hungry, she was also weak from being outside during the heavy rain.
Emmy Lou is the shelter’s name for the dog, and her puppies are named Billy Ray, Dixie, Dolly, Dotty, June, and Patsy. After the New Year, they will be offered for adoption.
