When a man in Tucson, Arizona, saw a sign that stated “Free Puppy,” he jumped at the chance to have a pet for free. The man had wanted a dog for a long time and now seemed like the perfect time to get one. So the man went to the house where the sign was posted and got himself a dog named Neo.
Neo seemed to be a little different from another dog right away. Neo would always dig out or leap the fence to play with the neighbors’ dogs when he was a puppy. And as Neo grew older, his owner discovered why his dog was so eager to interact with other dogs.
“As the owners stated, Neo would dig out or leap the fence to play with the neighbors’ pups,” Wolf Connection’s Cate Salansky told The Dodo. “He erected a taller fence to keep Neo in, but Neo chewed through it and continued to flee.”
Neo was seeking his group because, believe it or not, he is not a dog. He is a canine-wolf hybrid. As you might expect, owning a half-wolf pet might be dangerous, so Neo’s owner felt it would be best for him to live in an area where he could interact with other wolves.
“I was outdoors with another colleague,” the Humane Society of Southern Arizona’s Maureen O’Nell told The Dodo. “I noticed a couple strolling a long-legged dog to the front entrance. It wasn’t his physical appearance that drew my attention, but rather his demeanor. Neo avoided all human contact at all costs. As best I can explain it, the couple strolling him appeared bewildered.”
Neo has finally located his pack. More on his happy ending tale after the jump!”
