Dogs, as we all know, have shorter lifetimes than people. As a result, we always cherish every moment we spend with our dogs, cherish this one-of-a-kind bond, and do everything we can to keep them safe and happy.
However, this is not the case for everyone. There have been numerous reports of dogs being abandoned, left alone to starve to death, or waiting for their owners to return and pick them up in vain. And the most tragic case is a dog waiting for her family for 2,531 days.
A dog’s usual life expectancy is roughly ten years, but this canine had to spend seven years at a shelter waiting for someone to love and adopt her.
Dahlia, a Terrier mix, has been staying at the Humane Society in Santa Barbara, California since she was six months old. She’d spent her entire life at the shelter because luck had never been on her side.
Despite the shelter’s best efforts, Dahlia was neglected and had to watch her buddies be adopted one by one over the course of seven years.
As time passed and Dahlia still had not found a home, the shelter decided to try something new. They used social media to help Dahlia find her forever home.
One of the shelter volunteers posted a video of Dahlia in the hopes that it might entice someone to open their home to her. They also characterized her as a nice, affectionate, and loyal dog that enjoys snuggling and trying to please.
“She is a really sweet, intelligent, loving, and loyal big lap dog… I’m looking for a wonderful single pet home for her. “She’ll make someone very happy!”
Fortunately, an Orange County guy watched the video and quickly drove to the shelter to see and adopt Daliah. The sad puppy has finally found a new home where she will be pleased with her owner’s attention and affection.
The Humane Society issued an update, saying, “We are overjoyed! For those of you who have inquired about Dahlia’s well-being… She’s finally found her everlasting home!! Thank you to everyone who shared her story and contacted us!”
We’re happy to know that Dahlia found a permanent home after seven long years. As dog enthusiasts, we feel that every dog should be adopted into a loving home rather than spending their days in a shelter. So, if you want a dog, please consider adopting one from a shelter!
Please spread the word about this post to urge people to adopt underserved canines like Dahlia.
