Monkeys are frequently the victims of abuse and cruelty in India.
Because of their large population and the damage they cause to crops, monkeys are treated no differently than pests.
This orphaned cub was condemned to die – but help came from unexpected places.
Prakash Badal, an Indian photographer, was in Himachal Pradesh on work when he spotted the unexpected scene.
He saw a stray dog beside the road, on which a young monkey was climbing – the cub appeared to be no more than ten days old.
Locals informed the photographer that the monkey’s mom had been poisoned in order to safeguard the harvest.
This occurs on a regular basis in India, where a large population of monkeys is among the major agricultural issues.
The baby was hopeless – without milk and the care of his mom, he would perish.
However, a stray dog, which is about to give birth to puppies, came to his help.
An unconventional pair is now living together.
The dog receives food, which he eats with the baby, and they sleep, play, and roam the local streets altogether.
Such interactions between monkeys and dogs, according to Prakash, are uncommon – these creatures are more likely to clash than become friends.
However, it appears that instinct did not allow the mother to overlook an orphaned child, even if it was of a different kind.
It is unknown how family dynamics will change when pups arrive, but for the small monkey, there is no creature more precious than this dog, to whom he owes her life.
