The Copperhead snake was lying behind Haley McCormack’s house when her pup, Arlo, jumped into action to defend her. And, unbeknownst to McCormack, the snake was venomous. As I pursued the snake, Arlo jumped toward it.
Arlo was bitten 3 to 4 times in the face as a result, although he was capable of killing the snake and also saving his owner. Cormack took Arlo to BluePearl Pet Hospital in Nashville for anti-venom, pain medicine, and CBD oil, among other things. His neck, face, and eye were all swelling up, but he is fortunately healing and will totally recover.
“It’s incredibly remarkable to realize how much dedication and love he had for me, to risk his own life for mine,” McCormack told WTVF. “We’re both fortunate to have each other.”
According to the vet clinic, they have already treated over a dozen instances of snake bites in their area recently. Arlo was not the only canine in the clinic that day who had been bitten by a snake.
Cormack hopes Arlo’s story will make people aware of the hazards of snakes to people and dogs alike.
