Animal testing is a global problem. Dogs are still being used to test items, and their living conditions are deplorable. This is the story of Echo, a Beagle who spent six years in a cage. When the Beagle Freedom Project liberated these Beagles in China, they were all overjoyed to break free from their cages. But Echo was unique. Her trauma was holding her back.
Echo needs immediate medical attention. To test it, the firm injected a chemical into her eyes. Echo became blind as a result of this toxin. The unfortunate child needed to begin her new life with a special foster who could assist her in navigating the world outside of a cage. Hannah, a foster mother, stood up to accept her.
Hannah brought Echo home for the first time; it was the first time Echo had been inside a house. Gigi, Hannah’s little dog, which is generally rather fierce, immediately recognized something unusual about Echo. Gigi’s natural temperament changed after she sniffed her. Gigi realized she needed a patient companion.
Echo took some time to adjust to her new existence. Being blind is difficult enough, but being blind and never being allowed out of a cage is completely overwhelming. Thankfully, Echo began to shine 2 days after arriving at Hannah’s! She even showed off her playful side by enthusiastically waving her tail at her new foster parents.
The doctor concluded that removing one of Echo’s eyes might alleviate her agony during the next vet visit. Hannah describes in the video below how much of a difference it made.
This is when something unexpected occurs. Echo truly emerged from her shell. Her foster mother was blown away by her quirky, playful nature. This was a puppy who adored having fun! Echo was finally ready to begin her new life.
Jenna and Jay were contacted by Hannah. The couple saw Echo’s photo online and fell in love with her right away. They couldn’t wait to pick up Echo and take her to her new home.
Echo took a tour of her new home after she arrived. She greeted her new canine siblings and her feline sister. She felt like she was part of a pack for the first time. (Not to mention a family!) Echo got to experience a lot of “firsts” as she settled in, including her first walk on grass and her first trek. Most of us take all of the things for granted were significant milestones for a dog who had spent the previous six years imprisoned in a tiny cage.
The movie below depicts Echo’s latest adventures. It’s unbelievably moving. Then, as Echo’s new life progresses, something unexpected occurs. Jay and Jenna have a baby son, and the tiny Beagle is completely smitten!
