One police lieutenant believes an abandoned older pit bull would make an excellent K9 officer… The dog is now…

Halo, a six-year-old Pit Bull mix, has been looking for a stable home with someone who would love and maintain her for almost a year. After her previous owners divorced, she was surrendered to Rags 2 Riches Animal Rescue in Delaware County, Pennsylvania.

Halo was placed with foster parents until a permanent home could be located. Lieutenant Mickey Curran of the Upland Borough Police Department chance to come across Halo’s picture on Facebook one day. He was certain she was “the one.”

“She had a snaggletooth and an underbite, and I thought to myself, ‘That’s the girl for us!'” Curran stated this. “I replied, ‘I know this is unusual, but would you be okay with a police department saving a dog and keeping the dog at the station?'”

Tish Mayo, the rescue’s director, had never heard of such a situation, but she felt the notion was fantastic.

Halo was adopted and trained as an Upland police officer. She is the department’s very first rescue K-9 in its history.

She will not be trained as a narcotics detection or missing person dog, but she will give a unique service to the department. She will serve as a neighborhood police officer, attend activities and police meetings, and make visitors to the station feel welcome.

“She’s legit,” remarked Lt. Curran, “she took an oath and laid her paw on the Bible and everything.”

K9, congrats! Halo. We wish you the best of luck in your new career!
