Animal Angels Global rescued Pepo from Spain after he was spotted as a stray looking for food. They took him in and transferred him to the United Kingdom, where he was reunited with his family.
Finding him home, on the other hand, proved far more challenging than they had imagined.
Pepo has been rejected multiple times due to his looks, which includes a severe underbite that forces her bottom teeth to protrude, a big nose, and out-turned feet.
He spent 8 months in a temporary foster family while they looked for a permanent home for Pepo on social media.
When the rescue started published from Pepo’s perspective, it touched people’s hearts and aroused the interest of a woman from Tiverton, England.
One post stated, “I’ve been looking for a new home for a long time now, and I’m worried if nobody wants me because of my teeth.”
After her sister featured her in the photo, Jo Strachan fell in love with Pepo’s quirky, attractive face. She filled out an application, and the rescue judged that Jo’s home was the perfect fit for Pepo after thoroughly evaluating it.
Because of carpal valgus in his front legs, which prevents him from properly coordinating his feet, Jo says her dog runs like a ‘newborn lamb or foal.’
After losing his doggy sister a few months ago, Jo and her husband Glen were looking for a new puppy to keep their dog Bob company.
X-rays and scans revealed fractures and shattered bones, leading physicians to believe Pepo, who is around two years old, was abused as a puppy.
Despite his turbulent past and unusual appearance, Pepo enjoys playing and running around in his new backyard just like any other dog.
He’s also incredibly affectionate and grateful for everything, according to Jo, who claims that he cuddled up to her within hours of her adopting and getting him home.
“He’s just one of those animals where you wonder how he can have been handled so badly and still seek human companionship and trust?” Jo told DailyMail about it. “It’s incredible.”
