After being rescued from an abusive home, two canines are recovering at the Niagara County SPCA.
Two canines in a backyard appeared to be “in poor shape,” according to an anonymous complaint to the Niagara Falls Police Department.
Hemi, a six-month-old dog, was one of the dogs, while Foreign, a female pit bull mix, was the other.
Both canines were having difficulty walking and were in dire need of rescue, according to Officer Jimmy Tucci.
“When an officer arrived, he noted that one of the dogs was unable to put pressure on its leg. Hemi, the other dog, was malnourished, dehydrated, and unable to walk. The police had to carry him since his back leg was swelled and damaged so badly,” the shelter added.
Hemi was taken to Northtowns Emergency and is now recovering at the Niagara County SPCA.
Despite their mistreatment and neglect, both dogs are as loving as can be. “It’s sad to think that Hemi is just a baby and that this heinous treatment is all he’s ever known,” the shelter stated, “but we tell you that his life will get better from here on out.”
Hemi is being lavished with attention and love by the team and is anticipated to make a full recovery. In a recent update video, they stated that once Hemi is fully recovered, he will be placed in a permanent home.
“My husband replied to this call,” Tucci’s wife, Samantha Lynn, said. Heartbreaking. “We’re hoping to adopt him,” said the family.
Tucci contacted the shelter to inquire about Hemi’s well-being and set up a meet-and-greet with the couple’s dog Manny. “The responding officer is going to be adopting him,” the shelter announced, “and we are very, very excited for that.”
Foreign arrived in better condition than Hemi and is thriving. She’ll have a forever home with law enforcement after she’s approved medically. According to WKBW, the beautiful girl is being adopted by a local sheriff.
People applauded the officer for rescuing and adopting the pets. They also expressed gratitude to the anonymous caller and everyone who is helping to care for the adorable puppies.
“Thank you for rescuing the pets, I’m very glad they were reported. One user wrote, “Those sorrowful eyes will soon be smiling eyes.”
