After being allegedly malnourished, abused, and shot in the leg just days after giving birth to her brood of seven puppies, a mama dog is apparently healing.
Thankfully, the kind Samaritans who discovered her and her pups in Grayson County, Kentucky, took them to Louisville’s Blue Pearly Veterinary Hospital for prompt medical attention.
The mother dog, now named Ocean Blue, has a shattered radius and ulna, according to X-rays. She was in excruciating pain and was prescribed painkillers.
Tara Bassett and other animal rights activists banded together to fund over $6,500 for Ocean Blue’s operation, which included plates, screws, and a bone graft to restore her leg.
Ocean Blue and her 7 puppies, who are roughly one month old, are currently residing in foster homes after the procedure was a success.
