Dogs have shorter lifetimes than humans, as we all know. As a result, we cherish every time we spend with our dogs, cherish this unique and special bond, and do everything we can to keep them safe and happy.
However, this is not the case for everyone. There have been numerous examples of dogs being abandoned, left to starve to death, or waiting for their owners to return and pick them up in vain. The saddest story is about a dog that has been waiting for her family for 2,531 days.
Although a dog’s typical life expectancy is around ten years, this canine had to wait seven years in a shelter for someone to love and adopt her.
Dahlia is a Terrier mix who has been at the Humane Society in Santa Barbara, California since she was six months old. She had spent her entire life at the shelter due to a string of bad luck. Despite the shelter’s best efforts, Dahlia was neglected and had to watch as her pals were adopted one by one over the course of seven years.
As time passed and Dahlia still had not found a home, the shelter decided to take a different approach. Dahlia was found a forever home with the help of social media.
Dahlia’s video was published by one of the volunteers at the shelter in the hopes that it might inspire someone to open their home to her. She’s also regarded as a gentle, affectionate, and loyal dog who enjoys snuggling and pleasing people.
“She’s a big lap dog who’s incredibly lovely, clever, affectionate, and devoted… For her, I’m looking for a wonderful single pet home. She is going to make someone very happy!”
Thankfully, Daliah was adopted after a man from Orange County watched the video and drove straight to the shelter to see her. And now, with the love and care of her new owner, the sad puppy has found a new home.
“We are over the moon!” said the Humane Society in an update to the public. For those of you who have inquired about Dahlia’s health… She’s discovered the perfect place to call home for the rest of her life!! Thank you to everyone who took the time to read her story and contact us!”
We’re relieved to learn that Dahlia has found a forever home after seven years of searching. As dog enthusiasts, we feel that every dog should be adopted into a loving home rather than spending his or her days in a shelter. So, if you’re looking for a pup, think about adopting one from a shelter!
