Alongside his wife Sarah, Justin Scott from California works in the emergency.
They got a call from a man in severe need of assistance one day while on duty.
It turned out that the person was one of Justin’s closest friends. The man responded quickly to the call, but he was unable to save his companion.
Justin was unable to accept the death of loved ones and blamed himself for failing to save him.
He gradually fell into sadness and realized that he could no longer function without assistance.
The decision was made to bring home a dog that could help the man heal his mental wounds and return him to regular living.
Justin and Sarah visited all of the local shelters and spoke with over a hundred dogs before coming across Shelby, a short-legged mongrel, in the parking lot.
Justin realized he had made a true friend the instant the comical dog stared at him.
Justin remembers, “I looked her in the eyes and said, ‘I saved you, now you save me.'” “And she accomplished exactly that, dragging me from the depths of darkness.”
Shelby has been a vital part of the family since that day.
Shelby was invited to accompany the family on a camping trip in the mountains.
Shelby, however, was afraid of something as soon as the passengers arrived at the location, so she let go of the leash and went into the forest.
The man decided to look for a pet till she got into difficulty.
He roamed into the jungle till late at night, crying out the dog’s name, but he was obliged to return to the camp.
Justin set up food traps at night in the hopes of luring the “lost” in by their scent. Shelby, on the other hand, never returned.
There was no sign of the dog.
After 13 days, Justin had not found a single lead that would lead him to a pet. He had no idea if she was still alive.
“Shelby, you were always there, saving me from trouble,” Justin posted on Facebook. We’ll get you back on track! We are not going to give up! I’ve already saved you once, and I’ll do it again.”
After arriving home, the couple sought assistance from a non-profit dedicated to finding missing animals.
Babs Fry, the organization’s head, personally searched for Shelby by automobile, distributed flyers, and questioned local residents who had been moved by Justin’s tale.
And now for the call: Shelby was spotted fairly close to the house.
Babs dashed to the traps, only to discover a puppy in one of them!
The mongrel appeared to be robust and whole, albeit a little malnourished and filthy.
The “lost” was soon found and returned to its owner. The long-awaited meeting was extremely moving, with no one able to hold back tears.
The family had been searching for their cat for 28 days, and they couldn’t bear to let her go.
Shelby is presently in good health. And Justin never tires of praising fate for gifting him his beloved puppy — and then returning her when all hope was lost.
