Sammy was rescued from the roads of New Jersey by a passerby in late January and sent to the Monmouth County SPCA shelter.
Even seasoned personnel were taken aback by the dachshund’s behavior. “The dog sits and stares out the window all day as if waiting for someone to come get him. “Every time someone walks by, he stretches his entire body forward, then droops when he realizes the person has passed,” the shelter posted on Facebook.
The dog was clearly not a stray, but little was known about its owner until it was revealed that he was an elderly man who had lately passed away.
Furthermore, the shelter was informed that Sammy had lost not only his owner but also a long-time companion with whom he had shared a home.
The dachshund’s story moved people on social media. On Facebook, the post about Sammy received over 2,000 responses.
“There are no words,” she says, “and tears prevent me from reading anything.” “They don’t seem to stop”, “My heart is broken.” “It’s difficult to understand how broken this little soul is,” Sammy’s supporters sympathized.
The shelter requested users to share Sammy’s tale on social media in the hopes of finding the troubled canine a new home.
The story was shared by almost 3,000 people, and it was beneficial. The excellent news arrived in the final days of January: Sammy had been abducted!
There were a lot of candidates, and hundreds of letters and phone calls came in.
The shelter employees took around seven hours to go over all of the applications before finding Sammy’s owner.
The shelter is overjoyed at the change in their ward’s fortunes and hopes that the new owner will be able to heal the dog’s spiritual wounds.
The Monmouth County SPCA also urged people not to lose out on the chance to visit the shelter and find their true partner there, as there are many “treasures” with kind hearts who are waiting for their chance each day.
